There is nothing quite like the satisfaction you get from slipping a halter up over a young horse's nose, buckling it, and having them drop their head so you can love on them. I was worried I wouldn't remember how to work with a yearling; it has been a long time since I even cared to be around one. But standing there, rubbing her face, brushing her body, just feeling her skin quiver under my hand, I realized that this is exactly what I need right now. Patience. Gentleness. Quiet time. Proof that when you put some effort into something, you will be rewarded for your time. She might be small, and she might be feisty, but I have a feeling that Lucy and I are going to be a good team. I hope I can teach her as much as I know she is going to teach me.
