To the American consumer: Please do me a favor. There has been a lot of stuff in the news about Subway and their decision to only use beef, chicken, and pork that comes from animals that have never been given antibiotics; How Chipotle Grill only uses non-GMO foods, How Monsanto has brain washed farmers and makes the decisions of how and what they farm; the list goes on and on. Before you jump on the bandwagon, think about what this really means for all of us as consumers. IF you think Subway will be able to continue to sell $5 footlongs, I believe you will be sadly mistaken. For every label that gets put on an animal or a crop, there is more of a premium for that commodity- have you ever compared Organic to non-Organic vegetables in the grocery store? Think about what it would mean if ranchers could not give a sick calf the medicine it needs to get better- as I had read elsewhere earlier, if you take away modern medicine, you leave 2 options: A bullet, or pain and suffering. As a rancher, I could not imagine giving a calf lead poisoning just because he has a case of severe diarrhea. There are no antibiotics in your meat; it is illegal to sell livestock with antibiotics still in their systems. Think about how those farmers feel when people scream that Monsanto owns them- just because you buy a specific brand of underwear or body wash, does it mean that Hanes or Dove own you? I didn't think so. I am frustrated with the media, the mulit-millionaire business owners, and a general public that believe in the power of scare tactics. Just like politicians, marketing companies tell you what they want you hear to make themselves more money. If they really cared about you and your family, they would want you to be educated and wouldn't hide the other side of the story. Unless each and every one of you start raising your own crops and your own meat supplies, stop attacking those of us that raise it for you. American farmers and ranchers provide the best wheat, barley, beef, pork, chicken, and other crops in the entire world. Why do you think that is? Because we take pride in what we do. We take pride in offering wholesome, safe, and affordable products so you and your families can enjoy eating your food without worrying about getting sick. Because we eat it too. You have your job, your career, a paycheck month after month; Agriculture is not just our job, it is our life. Please remind those around you that jump to conclusions that there isn't a rancher or farmer in this country that is going to try to take away your lifestyle, so please stop trying to take away ours. ~ Richelle
