Until the next ride my friends,
~Richelle
Some days you just gotta get out of the office and get your feet in the stirrups. Reacquaint yourself with the great outdoors.Hold the weight of reins in your hands, instead of the weight of the world on your shoulders. Get covered in horse hair and dirt and sweat. Trade in the dress shoes and slacks for boots and jeans. Turn off the phone and tune in to the quiet clip-clop of hooves on the ground. Swap out the responsibilities of pushing paper and answering the phone for cleaning stalls and keeping a tight cinch. No day in the saddle is a waste- even on the days you end up on the ground. There is nothing so good for the inside of a man as the outside of a horse. ~John Lubbock, "Recreation," The Use of Life, 1894 Horses have a way of getting into your soul; under your skin; and sometimes the only cure is to find yourself looking in their eyes, feeling their heartbeat under your hand, and thanking them for always understanding you. It really is true that “In riding a horse, we borrow freedom” (Helen Thomson). There is nothing like the power of twelve hundred pounds between your legs to make you feel like you own the world. May we all have the opportunity to fall in love with a horse at least once in our lives; because there is no love like that of a horse; and no view like that from the saddle. If nothing else, may we have the chance to be irresponsible and play hooky from work once in a while to go enjoy the company of a four legged friend.
Until the next ride my friends, ~Richelle
